Is it really so important that the cake ribbon matches the chair sashes?… Cakes By Shelly – Day 3

Had a lovely morning, this morning delivering and setting up a wedding cake to one of my favourite venues – Woburn Sculpture Gallery. A gorgeous display of individually iced cakes with a matching top tier and an extra surprise cake for the groom.
Unfortunately the day took a rather sad turn when I returned home to an answerphone message from one of my brides who had called to inform me she had to cancel her wedding cake as her groom had passed away earlier in the week.
This sad news got me thinking to what is actually important in life?  As a wedding industry supplier I spend lots of time working with brides and grooms to ensure every little detail of their wedding is perfect. That the ribbon around the cake matches the colour of the chair cover sashes which match the colour of the bridesmaids dress. Sugar flowers match those used in the bridal bouquet and the table centre pieces. It’s so easy to get caught up in the excitement and momentum when planning a wedding that you lose track of the fundamental part of the day. While all these details seem so important in the build up to the big day it’s easy to forget the reason for the big day in the first place – the person you love.  Without them… there would be no big day x
Given such a heartbreaking diary account Ice the Cake would like to offer everyone a moment of reflection and will resume with Cakes By Shelly’s diary accounts tomorrow… time to go & give your loved ones an extra big hug 😦
