When this gorgeous styled photo shoot landed in my inbox, I had to let out a little squeal of delight. Not only because it’s a wonderfully romantic fairytale, but because the images are simply magical. I love the colours, the styling and the overall creation. What’s more as it’s slightly more understated than a full on ‘Disney Princess’ theme, it could be easily recreated for a real wedding day and luckily we have listed the team of wedding suppliers below should you wish to do so!
Today it is my absolute pleasure to hand you over to Claire Corfe, one half of the fabulous Bellybuttonboo, for the behind the scenes inspiration of the beautifully handcrafted wedding stationery…
Claire said “This was a collaborative wedding shoot that we were thrilled to be part of – styled by Georgina at Ruby Weddings and photographed by the amazing Shannon at SLR Photography. The Princess and the Pea is the third of their fantasy, fairytale themed wedding shoots which so far has featured Snow White and Rapunzel.
This shoot is based on the children’s story book ‘Princess and the Pea’. The style inspiration developed from the idea of creating an outdoor ‘home from home’ scene, which gave the whole shoot a woodland, boho feel.
After seeing the brief, we wanted to create some fantasy, fairytale wedding stationery to compliment the theme, so we used rustic, natural materials, teamed with an eclectic mix of patterned fabrics to echo the mattresses and the ‘outside/inside’ theme.
The place names were pea pods created using hessian shells and tiny needle felted peas, and we designed the table number to be a towering stack of little mattresses with the pea popping out between the mattresses to tie it all together. The number was added with hand embroidered tiny rows of peas…cute!
We felt the invitation needed to have a suitably regal feel, but still rustic, so we created a scroll invitation trimmed with fabric, decorated with paper flowers and more felted peas.
Handmade paper sweet peas were used to decorate some of the stationery elements and table decorations – like the sign used to accompany the glass wayfinders hanging from the trees.
The story ends with the pea being encased in the royal museum for all to see, so we thought this was great inspiration for the menu. Using twigs and sheets of clear plastic and vellum, we created a rustic display case which housed the Princess’ pea on a tiny cushion.
It was great to let loose on this Princess and the Pea inspired wedding shoot. We wanted to show that stationery doesn’t have to be dull or just paper based. We hope you enjoyed looking at the pictures as much as we enjoyed designing the stationery…we just love a challenge!”
