Today it is my absolute pleasure to bring you an easy way to hide the overlap, on the ribbon, on your cake. Instead of leaving edges on show, why not hide them with a cute bow? Shelly Shulman, Owner of Cakes by Shelly, based in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, recently hosted a fabulous Cake Decorating Masterclass at The ITC Hub and the attendees on the day loved this quick idea so much, we thought we’d put it together in a simple step by step guide. So today it is my pleasure to hand you over to Shelly for her 6 Easy Steps to creating the perfect Wedding Cake bow.
Ok so lets get started…
What you will need:
- Tape Measure
Measure 2 lengths of ribbon. The first should be approximately 7 inches of ribbon and the second approx. 3 inches. Cut the two lengths these will create both the base and the centre of your cake bow.
Take the longest piece of ribbon and using your tape measure find the centre. Fold one end of the ribbon into the centre.
Fold the other end of the ribbon into the centre of your ribbon so they just overlap and hold in place with your finger and thumb. Cut off any excess ribbon.
Take the shorter length of ribbon and wrap it around the join all the way around the ribbon so it over laps at the back. Cut off any excess ribbon.
Using a sterile needle, feed your pin through the back of the bow, avoiding the front top layer.
Pin your bow onto the ribbon around the base of your cake.
