Gem of the Week ~ R and J Photography

Hot on the Ice the Cake scene are R&J Photography! We caught up with owners Jane and Renira for a quick chat and a few nosey questions about their Wedding Photography business…

When did you launch?

In 2009.

Where are you based?

Oxfordshire, we both live in different towns with in the county and although the majority of our clients are from this beautiful area, we travel all over the UK to shoot weddings and this year we added the title of international wedding photographers to our bow.

Where did the inspiration come from?

The inspiration for starting R&J Photography came from working together in a previous company and realising that we shared not only a similar style creatively but a professional work ethic too.

What did you do before running your wedding photography businesses?

We both worked our way up through a national portrait photography franchise, we worked and trained together and both ran separate studios. During this time we always said we would love to actually do something for ourselves and when the time was right, we did!

What wedding photography services do you offer?

We always shoot together at weddings. We provide a full and seamless record of your day and our storytelling style of photography means you will have wonderful memories of every detail and expression.

We offer 2 packages for our wedding photography;

Short and Sweet £995
For shorter wedding needs we offer a 3 hour package. This includes photographic coverage on the day and a disc of high resolution images. A password protected viewing gallery and our planning meeting is provided. Need us for a couple more hours? Extra hours on the day are charged at £100 per hour.

Standard Package £1695
Our standard wedding photography package, is all inclusive and is the one most couples find suitable and great value for money. We offer 8 hours photographic coverage on the day and include the high resolution images on disc and also a password protected online viewing gallery. We also include an engagement shoot & images with our compliments. Our planning meeting is also included.

We are also proud to offer a superb selection of custom designed wedding photography books.

What has been your biggest achievement?

Those of you reading this who run your own companies will know there are many achievements you strive towards on a regular basis. I think starting international wedding photography this year was a pretty cool achievement! (So do we!)

What do you love about weddings?

The interaction with people, the fabulous outfits, flowers and venues we get to go to, we could go on! But most of all it’s the respect you receive for your craft. Everyone is a photographer these days with the advancement of technology & social media but we think that’s a good thing. It means the couples who book us really care about the memories of their day and trust us to tell their wedding story in a thoughtful and creative way.

Who inspires you?

Of course it has to be the greats, Annie leibovitz, Rankin,Anton Corbijn, Nick Knight, Herb Ritts, David LaChapelle and more recently Kirsty Mitchell and Jasmine Star but inspiration is everywhere, from current fashion mags & music videos to nature itself.  We like to immerse ourselves in many different sources for inspiration, we are both really creative people and need a wide variety to keep the ideas flowing.

What is your pearl of wisdom for a Bride to Be planning her wedding day?

Be your most fabulous self! Don’t try to be somebody you’re not and don’t try to please everyone. Get your friends and family to help you along the way, especially if you are doing a lot of the preparations for yourself.  Do what is best for you and use your ideas, do a tone of research online there’s so much to see now and make the day your own.

Tell us a secret?

Jane ate all the strawberry creams in the Quality Street tin and denied it!

What is your favourite type of shot?

A tough question to ask a photographer! If you can tear us away from the beautiful shoes for a moment, it has got to be a shot that conveys the expression of the moment. Whatever the situation we’re shooting in, the magical moment of laughter, a tear, or just two people in love, it’s the expressions that do it every time!

What trends have you seen for 2013 and what do you think is in store for 2014?

We think vintage has finally had its turn and we’re seeing a more individual and polished look to weddings. Lots of lace and flower crowns, 1920’s style is still around but maybe in smaller details like hair pieces & jewellery. For colours pink, peach, mint, grey. Signature cocktails, lighting for venues. And the next place to have your wedding is in a school !

A Note from R&J…

Our diary is pretty full already for 2014 and getting that way for 2015, so please don’t delay with your enquiry.
