It seems like an eternity ago now that I, together with a fantastic team of wedding suppliers, set about capturing a lovely photo shoot, which took place at the historic Nether Winchendon Church.
Towards the end of 2013, the absolutely lovely, Georgianna Spencer Bernard, Owner of the stunning Wedding Venue, Nether Winchendon House, mentioned to me how recently they had been asked by Brides and Grooms about the potential of combining their very special Wedding Day with the Baptism of their Child.
It is of course becoming more common for couples to have children, prior to marriage. In fact, according to The Church Of England’s literature, 1 in 5 couples who marry in a church already have children of their own. So what could be a more perfect setting for a family celebration?
In 2009 and The Church of England introduced a new service enabling couples to incorporate either a Baptism or Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child, into their wedding day service. Enabling couples to create an extra special family occasion. I was lucky enough to visit their stand at the National Wedding Show last weekend and to have a chat about this truly inspiring service. I absolutely adored hearing the story of one couple who invited their guests to their Son’s Baptism and then surprised them all by saying their Wedding Vows too! It must’ve been such an emotional day. You can read all about it here (make sure you have tissues at the ready!)
For full details of the Marriage and Baptism service and the Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child service, please visit The Church of England’s Website.
Late last year, I set about bringing together a styled shoot at Nether Winchendon Church to capture the service. I was honoured when Georgianna, kindly loaned me two extremely precious outfits for the day. Both couture and designed in the early 90’s; the Bridesmaid Dress and Pageboy outfit were originally worn by her very own children for an exclusive Wedding ceremony. We of course, were unable to use the original Wedding Dress, however, luckily I was able to borrow a stunning gown courtesy of Confetti Bridalwear based in Tring.
But perhaps the most luxurious outfit of all, was that of our beautiful baby girl model, who wore Georgianna’s own personal couture Dior Christening Gown – a truly exquisite lace and silk gown, with a beautiful baby bonnet.
The idea of creating such a memorable family occasion is wonderful and one that I am sure many parents would love to embrace. If you are thinking of combining your child’s baptism with your wedding or have attended a previous celebration, I would love to hear from you.
